With new HBO boxed sets like The Pacific and the incredible Deadwood: The Complete Series freshly unleashed upon the public it’s very possible to forget that the studio released some truly great gift-worthy titles earlier in the year. Fox bringing Never Let Me Go and Conviction to Blu-ray

I’m still gutted that Mark Romanek walked away from directing the Wolfman re-make. With his vision, with his visual flair, it could have been so brilliant. But when a film like Never Let Me Go is able to exist as a result of his departure, all is happily forgiven. Romanek’s extraordinary adaptation of the best-selling Kazuo Ishiguro novel of the same name comes to Blu-ray on February 1st, along with Tony Goldwyn’s Conviction – both worthy contenders in the upcoming award season. …Continued…

I’m not a Costner fan by any stretch of the imagination but I’ll gladly admit that the man kicks ass in a western. It’s like he’s an actor born to star in a certain type of film. My head is still buzzing from the Black Friday/Cyber Monday madness! I spent waaaay too much money on Blu-ray discs over the last week (like I really needed more.) I should learn to exert a modicum of self control with these things. Anyway, I think you’ll find this weeks new releases to be a somewhat calm return to normalcy, with a bunch of underwhelming new titles and some surprising catalogue ones. All-Star Superman Blu-ray announced and detailed

There are about five-million reason to be excited about this next animated release from Warner and DC, chief among them is that it’s an adaptation of one of the all-time best Superman stories ever told! Aside from the story itself, the aspect of the the upcoming All-Star Superman Blu-ray disc that has got me crapping my pants with excitement is the fact that it includes a commentary track. And it’s not just any old commentary track, oh no. THIS IS A GODDAMN GRANT MORRISON COMMENTARY TRACK!!! You heard me correctly. Morrison, the crazy/brilliant/visionary/under-the-influence Scottish writer responsible for the original graphic novel on which the film is based, is going to talk you all the way through the plot, along with producer Bruce Timm. Now, if only DC could convince the him to record a commentary that would clear up what in the hell happened in his Final Crisis and Return of Bruce Wayne books, we’d have something there. …Continued…
