You know, this movie is really not as bad as I remember it.
Roger Moore returns as Bond in The Man With The Golden Gun, his second outing as British super-spy, 007. I’ve never been a big fan of Moore’s wimpy, jocular characterization but his sense of suave doesn’t seem to get in the way here. This isn’t one of the “great” Bond’s but it far out-performs Moore’s later, geriatric efforts in Octopussy and A View to a Kill. He’s on point. Ready for business. And up against one of the coolest villains in Bond history - Dracula! …Continued…
We read the rumours. We dreamed about them. We hoped they would come before the end of the year. And now Paramount has confirmed its exclusive new “Sapphire Series” series of deluxe Blu-ray discs, kicking off with the September 1st release of Gladiator and Braveheart, followed by Forest Gump on November 3rd.
I’m grateful that we’re getting these fliks on Blu-ray at long last (well, I guess the wait hasn’t been THAT long. Blu-ray is only 3 years old!) But this whole “Sapphire Series” thing stinks of marketing department. I don’t believe for a moment that the quality of these discs - the A/V, the bonus stuff -is any better, is prepared with more love than Paramount gives to their Transformers or Iron Man discs.
Whatever. I could care less. Slap whatever label you want on the packages. Just gimme the movies.
Here are the details of Gladiator and Braveheart. We’ll know more about the Gump later in the summer. …Continued…
This is big news and it’s confirmed: we’re getting Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray on November 3rd! …Continued…
Should you import the Highlander Blu-ray Steelbook from the UK or Europe? I guess the question should really be, should you bother watching Highlander again at all? Probably not. But if you, like me, have a real soft spot in your immortal heart for this film, then yeah, maybe you want to consider an order to Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.de. …Continued…
Damn! Look what happens when you’re not paying attention. Amazon has just dropped the price on the mammoth Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Box Set! When they had offered the set initially, the online retailer had offered a 30% discount. A scant few weeks later, Amazon has dropped the price a further 7%, bringing the 20 disc set down to only $219.99. Not bad for all 4.5 season, a mini-series, original movie, Cylon action figure and more, stuffed into fancy exclusive packaging. …Continued…
Damn it, Bill! You got me all fired up, expecting to see a whole horde of these awesome movies on Blu-ray before the end of the year.
Bill Hunt over at our favourite home video site, The Digital Bits has posted an update to his Rumour Mill release notes, stating that a lot the titles reported as candidates for 2009 release have now been pushed back to 2010. No, Bill! Say it ain’t so! I had my heart set on seeing some high-def Raiders of the Lost Ark and Alien this year! You’ve just ruined Christmas for all the boy’s and girls!
Here’s what he has to say: …Continued…
Back in 2003, I introduced this film to my friends. They’ve never forgiven me. Takashi Miike’s Audition is terrifying. It’s the story of a widower (Ryo Ishibashi) who holds “auditions” for a new girlfriend and winds up hooking up with a beautiful psychopath (Eihi Shiina). The last few scenes will scar you for life. Don’t say I didn’t warn you… …Continued…
