Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present to you the Blu-ray release of a film where Iron Man‘s daddy plays the evil twins of Saddam Hussein. Well, okay, he doesn’t really play twins in the film, I just liked the way that sounded. Dominic Cooper stars in The Devil’s Double as both the late dictator’s son Uday “The Black Prince” Hussein and the man hired to double for him, Latif Yahia. It’s a true story and a film that received some critical acclaim. Looks pretty good to me. Lionsgate hasn’t released a final list of technical details on this Blu-ray yet though it’ll be available in a only a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it! …Continued…
I’ve heard from my critic pals that Gavin O’Connor’s Warrior is something like the Footloose of fighting films – cheesy and melodramatic but oddly satisfying. I don’t know about you but I don’t need anyone telling me anything about the film beyond the fact that it’s got young Uncle Owen in the ring with the evil Romulan clone of Captain Jean Luc Picard (aka notorious Batman back-breaker Bane!) to sell me on this bad boy. I’m in! I’ll be grabbing it up on Blu-ray when it hits store shelves on December 20th. …Continued…
I hope you’re all ready for me to not shut up about this boxed set for at least the next couple of months because I don’t think there’s anything more exciting coming along before the end of the year than the Three Colors box from Criterion. To get you in the mood for the November 15th release, the studio has released a Three Reasons video for the first film in the trilogy, Blue. Expect to see videos for White and Red pop up over the next week. This Blu-ray release is going to be so good! SO GOOD!! …Continued…

I’m a big fan of the original but, sadly, I missed out on the recent remake of the ’80s vampire horror/comedy classic Fright Night when it was in theatres. My pals seemed to enjoy it quite a bit so, on their many enthusiastic recommendations, I’m looking forward to the December 13th Blu-ray release from Touchstone (Disney) and Dreamworks. Screen Archives’ Twilight Time label, who recently grabbed up a lot of titles from the Columbia catalogue, is also set to release the original 1985 version of the film on Blu-ray on the same day in a limited edition of only 3000. There’s no pre-order up on their site yet but we’ve been able to suss out the disc details for you, listed below. …Continued…
Though it’s filled with ghoulish imagery, The Phantom Carriage feels more like a New Years film to me, than a spooky Halloween treat. Perhaps because it takes place on New Year’s Eve. Yeah, that’s it. It’s a terrific, haunting film and one of my favourite Criterion Blu-ray discs of the year so far. See Criterion’s Three Reasons to own the disc in their new trailer, posted above. Read the many reasons I recommend it in my full review, linked to below. …Continued…
