There have been a fair number of classic and very important films announced for release on Blu-ray this year already, though we’re only twenty-eight days into 2011. And despite the fact that there has been no official announcement yet in North America it has become clear in the last couple of days that Martin Scorsese‘s Taxi Driver will, at long last, be making its way to Blu this coming April. …Continued…
Something of a strange one this week. I’ve seen very few of the newly released Blu-ray titles I’m most intrigued by so the Top 5 list is mostly populated by movies I’m excited to check out. As always, clicking on the package artwork will take you to Amazon where you can learn more about and purchase the disc. The Blu-ray Blog gets a small percentage for every purchase you make through our links. And believe me, those clicks keep the site online. And we thank you for every one! …Continued…
It’s not a particularly overwhelming week in terms of sheer numbers of discs hitting the shops but damn, are there ever some amazing new titles coming out today, including a Blu-ray that could potentially be one of the best releases of the year! You read that right, it’s only the second week of 2011 and we may already have one of the best Blu-ray discs of the year on our hands. And it’s not even from Criterion!! …Continued…

“These aren’t just Blu-rays. This is a legacy that will knock your other discs off the shelf!” That’s some kinda declamatory statement those Sony boys are making about their two upcoming Mariachi Trilogy Blu-ray releases. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of chutzpah they actually have when they’re released this coming January 4th! …Continued…
Sony isn’t wasting any time bringing their Facebook drama The Social Network to Blu-ray, announcing it for a January 11th release. The David Fincher film comes to Blu in a fairly robust 2-disc “Collector’s Edition” that should make fans and film lovers happy. …Continued…
I missed out on The Pillars of the Earth when it aired a few months back so the 3-disc Blu-ray set served as my introduction. Despite a general aversion to the mini-series format I found myself quickly sucked into this brilliantly executed medieval melodrama, adapted from the bestselling novel by Ken Follett. …Continued…
This is an amazing week for Blu-ray – not only in that there are a handful of pretty amazing new releases (and some duds) to grab up but that there are more deals to be had this week on titles and players than at any time of the year, thanks to the incredible BLACK FRIDAY sales in the USA. If new releases aren’t your thing this week, you can find a handy, constantly-updated Black Friday Blu-ray Guide to sales and sale prices here. …Continued…
This is exciting news! One of my absolute favourite TV shows of the last year is on its way to Blu-ray! Justified stars Timothy Olyphant and is adapted from a story by Elmore Leonard (who, by the way, is a producer on the show.) I’m surprised at how many special features Sony has assembled for the set – four commentaries and a ton of featurettes – but the apparent care being put into the Blu-ray discs bodes well for the future of the series. Can’t wait for season two, currently scheduled for February 2011! …Continued…
