Oh boy. I can’t wait for this! Warner Home Video has officially announced the March 2nd release of Where the Wild Things Are on Blu-ray! This is another one of those films that escaped me this past year, despite the fact that I’m a massive fan of the original Maurice Sendak book and love the work of director, Spike Jonze.
I’ve really got high hopes for this Blu-ray disc. All we know about it so far is that it will include an all-new short by Jonze and the National Film Board of Canada, titled “Higglety Pigglety Pop” (based on another Sendak book), animated by the award winning team of Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski (directors of the Oscar nominated Madame Tutli-Putli) and featuring the voices of Meryl Streep and Forest Whitaker. In a perfect world, though, the disc will also have a lot of supplementary material, including the original cut of the film (or at least the footage that got re-shot to make it more kid-friendly) and the HBO doc, Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak. And while WHV is at it, why not throw in one of Elaine Ho‘s cute, little silver Where the Wild Things Are pendants to round out the package! Now we’re talking!
Full details of the release should emerge soon and, of course, we’ll update you when they’re revealed. Until then, take a good look at the trade ad below:
