Remember when the Harry Potter films went from being kind of just okay to freaking amazing? That was the work of director Alfonso Cuarón on the third film, The Prisoner of Azkaban, providing the franchise more style and character than the previous two films combined. After a wait of what seems like an eternity to me, Azkaban, along with its follow-up, The Goblet of Fire will be arriving in the Ultimate Edition format this October. If you read my reviews of the first two boxed sets, released last year, you’ll recall that I was extremely enthusiastic about what Warner is doing here. Sadly, this time around, we won’t be getting extended cuts of the films along with the theatrical. I’m fairly certain, however that the multitude of special features and extras in the boxes will more than make up for the absence. …Continued…
I thought I’d follow up my viewing of a classic film about Greek mythology with a brand new, modern film about Greek mythology! I can’t say that I’m surprised that Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is a far, far cry from Harryhausen’s Jason and the Argonauts and actually has way more in common with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. You know Blu-ray disc has finally hit the big-time when little sites that talk about it, like this one become targets. So, that said, seeing as how it’s athis post is already a day late and I’m totally wiped out keeping up with this nonsense as well as my day job, I’m just going to lay this list out for you without much, if any commentary. Here we go… …Continued…
Well, this has been a long time coming! The Goonies make their high-def debut this November in a 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-ray boxed set. While I’m completely stoked to watch a brand spanking new transfer of the film on Blu-ray, I can honestly do without all the memorabilia and goo-gahs in this UCE box. Following Warner’s general release pattern, I would put money on it that we’ll likely see a stand alone Blu-ray disc release in 2011. That’ll be the one for me! Details below: …Continued…
Did you read my review of the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Ultimate Edition Blu-ray Disc set last week? Well, simply replace a few of the details, add some special features and ramp up the praise by a factor of ten and suddenly you’ve got my review for the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Ultimate Edition Blu-ray Disc set! Could these things possibly get any better?! …Continued…
